String Nail Art Valentine's Day Craft

Love You More

By Karen Simoneschi Plano Publisher February 4, 2020

Valentine's Day is coming and this is a great time to make a special craft item for someone you love.  String Nail art can be that perfect craft!  Not only does it not require a lot of materials, but it is pretty easy and inexpensive to make.

Supplies you will need: A piece of wood cut to the size of the heart you are looking to make, a box of 1 inch nails (with large heads), embroidery floss in color of your choice, and a hammer.

Depending on the age of the person making the project you can either cut out a stencil heart from a piece of paper, or even just use a pencil to draw it directly on the wood.

Once you have your heart shape on the wood you will start to hammer the nails about 1/4 " deep and space them about 1/2" apart around the outline of the heart.  Try to space them as evenly as possible.  Try not to put them too close together as you will be wrapping the string around them.

Once all the nails are in place you will take your embroidery floss and outline the perimeter of the shape by wrapping the string around each nail. Start at the bottom of the heart and tie a knot around that nail, so that it stays in place.  After you have the outline of the heart done you can begin to fill in the heart by crisscrossing and wrapping from nail to nail.  There is not any set order or direction for this process.  It is up to the artist's eye on how they want it to look!  Repeate this process till the shape is filled in exactly as you want it.  Then tie off the end on a nail and cut off the excess string.

Now you are finished!  You can add a special message to the bottom of the wood, or to the back.  Don't forget to date and sign your project so that your loved one receiving it always remembers when they got it!
